Date reportedly set for Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Mike Tyson

Exhibition date and surprise location announced.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. never lost a fight in his professional life. The American megastar is held on a pedestal as the shining example of the perfect career.

He fought and beat the biggest names, topped all-time pay-per-view sales, left the sport on his own terms with a completely unblemished slate, and took very little punishment in the process.

You can’t ask for anything more.

However, even Mayweather cannot fully scratch the itch that a boxer gets when they retire. As a result, while he has not boxed professionally since 2017, he has appeared in the ring a number of times regardless.

These appearances have been in the form of exhibition bouts, non-scored fights that don’t count on a fighter’s professional record. While Muhammad Ali famously engaged in a few of these himself, Mayweather’s have been known to highlight a gap in skill and size like none before.

In Mayweather’s exhibitions, he has fought fighters who mainly specialised in other disciplines, small-time professional boxers, and most famously, YouTubers in the form of Deji Olatunji and Logan Paul (brothers of KSI and Jake Paul, respectively).

Now we are getting word that Mayweather’s next exhibition has a date pencilled in, with his opponent set to be none other than Mike Tyson.

Tyson and Mayweather are the two biggest names of modern boxing in the past few decades, though they operated several weight divisions apart.

Tyson himself has engaged in an exhibition before with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, but more recently fought in a professional fight against YouTuber Jake Paul in 2024.

This was very much akin to Mayweather’s official 50th and final professional fight against UFC powerhouse Conor McGregor.

Tyson and Mayweather are reportedly set to square off on the 25th of April. The location, bizarrely enough, is apparently going to be the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Mayweather will be turning 49 years old in just over a week, while Tyson will be 60 in June. Though far removed from their fighting primes, the attraction will have a lot of eyes on it nonetheless.
