Date and location revealed for Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn

Conor Benn is set to challenge Ryan Garcia for the WBC welterweight world championship

Brits have had some famous wins in the United States over the years.

Something about the away victory just makes the accomplishment seem that bit greater.

Carl Froch, Darren Barker and Tyson Fury are all prime examples of world title wins in the States for British fighters.

The most recent example was Dalton Smith (19-0, 14ko’s) who stopped Subriel Matias in dramatic style to become WBC super-lightweight champion in New York.

It’s the green and gold of the welterweight division that Conor Benn (25-1, 14ko’s).

Despite not making the welterweight limit for close to four years, the Brit is the mandatory challenger.

Last Saturday was Benn’s first step of a journey back down to his championship weight.

Although many have criticised his performance, Benn defeated Regis Prograis (30-4, 24ko’s) via unanimous decision.

The scorecards read 98-92 x3, and despite getting cut above both eyes, all roads are leading towards a clash with Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s) this summer.

Garcia became a world champion for the first time in February with a dominant points victory over Mario Barrios (29-3-2, 18ko’s).

Many have suggested the two are in deep negotiations for a clash this summer.

On a Kick stream, Ryan Garcia stated: “It’s going to be in August”.

“We’re going to have it in Las Vegas”.

“His name’s Conor Benn, he’s from the UK, Conor is about to get blasted”.

It has been Conor ‘The Destroyer’ Benn’s career long dream to follow in his legendary fathers footsteps and capture the WBC title.

He is likely to be the underdog with the bookies, with many doubting his credibility at world level.

Both fighters have had ups and downs over recent years.

Will it be ‘and still’, or will Conor Benn become a world champion?
