Dubois weighs in at heaviest career weight for Wardley throwdown.
Today, Fabio Wardley and Daniel Dubois weighed in for their hotly anticipated clash tomorrow night, a bout that promises fireworks like a New Year’s celebration.
It is always a special occasion when two Britons duke it out for a world title, but when those two Britons happen to also be heavyweights?
Well, that is something extraordinary, something wonderful in its rarity, something so pure that if you try to holds its essence in the palm of your hand for too long, you run the risk of it disappearing and losing it forever.
These type of moments are ones you look back on, and they look right on back at you. When two of the biggest, hardest-hitting men meet in the ring, that’s boxing punching at its most potent.
And in Wardley vs. Dubois, that’s exactly what we have. And do you know what? Absolutely nobody is confidently picking a winner. It’s as 50-50 as it gets.
The barnburner atop the bill is the finale to an 11-fight card of stupendous action. Whether you’re watching in person or from home, you’ll want to be watching.
But before the two big men hit each other, they hit the scales, and Dubois came in at the heaviest weight of his career. Weighing 251.7 pounds, Wardley (242.2 pounds) was 9½ pounds lighter than his foe.
This may be a tactic from Dubois, as more mass tends to equal more force. However, it must be noted that this is not anything new for Wardley. Never a massive heavyweight, the Ipswich man has actually been outweighed in 17 of his 21 bouts so far.
In fact, against German opponent Dennis Lewandowski in 2019, Wardley was the lighter man in the ring by 119½ pounds, and he still took care of business in the third frame.
However, Dubois punches like nobody else Wardley has faced, so this weight gain may have a different impact than his other in-ring nemeses.
Regardless, the talk and build-up is now over. All that’s left to do is fight.
