Promoter back and forth continues as Dana White hits back at Oscar De La Hoya over his recent legal situation with Vergil Ortiz Jr.
It is Zuffa Boxing’s first major fight week.
Jai Opetaia will face Brandon Glanton for the inaugural Zuffa Boxing world championship.
Dana White and Zuffa have not had a warm welcome into the industry, and why would they?
Financially backed by Turki Al-Sheikh and SELA, they have major plans to takeover the sport.
It is fair to say that these intentions have not gone down well with established parties in boxing.
Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing has declared an industry ‘war’ on Dana White.
Oscar De La Hoya has also not been short of criticism for the UFC turned boxing promoter.
‘The Golden Boy’ has stated that Zuffa is not good for boxing, and that their plan to disregard the existing governing bodies will not work.
Speaking to IFL TV, Dana White has fired back at Del La Hoya:
“Del La Hoya thinks I’m bad for boxing. He’s suing his fighters so they won’t leave him”.
“He’s stopping them from making money in the short window of opportunity that they have to make money”.
Oscar and Golden Boy Promotions have successfully prohibited fighter Vergil Ortiz Jr from signing with Matchroom Boxing to fight Jaron Ennis in a fight that the boxing public are desperate to see.
Dana White continued:
“How am I bad for boxing when there is more money being thrown around now in the sport, and not just for Usyk and Tyson Fury, it’s from top to the bottom”.
“The Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy ship is sinking fast, and this dude is chatting sh*t all the way down”.
Furthermore, White confirmed that he has global plans for Zuffa Boxing and will “take live events to a lot of different countries”.
