Dana White has revealed that the Ryan Garcia vs Conor Benn clash is not signed yet despite Garcia’s claims on The Jimmy Fallon Show.
After a turbulent couple of years, Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s) is well and truly back at the top of the sport.
Failed VADA tests, a no contest, a 12 month suspension, and a crushing defeat to Rolly Romero, many wondered if there was a way back for the highly talented American.
However, a shot at WBC welterweight gold against Mario Barrios came up, and the rest is history.
A dominant 12 round performance saw Garcia become world champion for the very first time.
In a stacked division, the big money opportunities are endless, and it seems all systems are a go for a major first defence of his title.
Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, Garcia revealed:
“We are fighting September 12, in Las Vegas”.
“And the opponent, let’s just say, he’s from the other side, across the pond”.
“His name is Conor Benn, and he’s been talking a lot”.
Conor ‘The Destroyer’ Benn has been for right or wrong the most talked about British fighter over recent years.
Last year saw Benn move up to middleweight to handle a family feud affair, fighting Chris Eubank Jr twice.
Whilst these two fights transcended into the mainstream, his ultimate goal has always been to become WBC world champion.
When the Essex man signed with Zuffa Boxing and Dana White, many wondered if this would dampen his chances at becoming a world champion.
Dana White spoke to IFL TV and was questioned on his involvement in the proposed mega clash.
White stated: “I haven’t worked with Oscar De La Hoya at all”.
“We’ll see how it plays out if it happens”.
“If it was officially done I would have announced it here and we would be speaking about it”.
The likelihood is that this fight would sit on a Ring Magazine show, with Turki Al-Sheikh acting as the middle man between Dana White and De La Hoya.
