The Briton is one step closer to putting his money where his mouth is.
Conor Benn claimed his 25th professional win when he outpointed Regis Prograis earlier this month.
Benn was fighting under the Zuffa Boxing banner for a reported $15 million payday as part of a one-fight deal.
In the aftermath of his victory, the Briton had a brief stint as a free agent before announcing a new agreement with Zuffa.
Benn has signed a five-fight, two-and-a-half-year deal with Dana White’s boxing promotion.
In doing so, the 29-year-old is believed to have found himself in advanced talks to face WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia.
When asked about the potential clash, Benn had some choice words about the American.
At the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the Briton explained to talkSPORT: “He’s a bit cowardly.
“Because he’s seen me go 10 rounds with Regis — I haven’t fought at that weight in four years, six weeks’ notice for a tricky southpaw, two-time former world champion.
“He’s probably sitting there going, ‘Oh yeah, I want some of that now.’
“It just goes to show he’s cowardly, because where have you been?
“I’ve been vocal about getting that WBC world title, I’ve been vocal about fighting you, now you want it.
“It just sums his character up.”
The rivals have only exchanged verbal shots to date, but now it seems they are closer than ever to settling their score in the ring.
According to Garcia, the negotiations are firmly underway, and fans can expect them to face off in the summer.
For Benn, defeating Garcia would mean fulfilling his dream of following in his father’s footsteps as WBC welterweight champion.
But for Garcia, a successful defence against Benn would reinforce his legitimacy as champion.
