Benn sends Garcia a personal message.
Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn are two of the most popular and controversial figures in the world of professional boxing.
The men are similar, both having had a portion of the public turn on them because of a failed drug test. They both fight aggressively, and they both compete in the same division.
While Garcia has operated at a slightly higher level, they possess similar profiles, and their list of things in common would make a fight between the two very interesting.
Of course, those in the business side of boxing have already figured that out, and a fight between Garcia and Benn has been rumoured to occur for a while now.
Reportedly, it was set to be announced recently by Zuffa Boxing, but then legal action from both DAZN and Golden Boy Promotions came in, and though it is being speculated for this September, things still haven’t been made official.
However, that hasn’t stopped Garcia and Benn from engaging in an online spat recently, with the two having traded verbals on Twitter over the past 24 hours regarding their potential fight.
This has culminated in a video earlier today from Benn, with the Englishman sending a message to the Mexican-American in Spanish.
“Hey, Ryan,” said Benn in his translated statement, “you are an a**hole. You are not Mexican. Stop lying to the people.”
This follows after Garcia openly expressed his support for Mexico in the ongoing FIFA World Cup, with the welterweight titleholder’s team set to take on England in their next match.
If Garcia and Benn are to clash, the two will be putting pride and national identity on the line, which will undoubtedly lead to a very special type of encounter.
