Conor Benn is seemingly just one fight away from becoming WBC welterweight world champion
Its been no secret that Conor Benn (25-1, 14ko’s) wants nothing more than the WBC world title.
He’s never been this close.
Despite not fighting at his championship weight for close to four years, ‘The Destroyer’ is number one and mandatory challenger.
2025 was a year of redemption for Conor Benn, two fights with his arch rival Chris Eubank Jr (35-4, 25ko’s) rocked Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the British boxing public.
2026 has not been quiet either.
Leaving Matchroom Boxing to join Zuffa Boxing left everyone shocked.
His first fight under Dana White’s promotion was against Regis Prograis (30-4, 24ko’s) at a catchweight of 150lbs
Whilst Benn wasn’t at his best, a 98-92 scorecard was a first step on his way back down to welterweight.
Many fight experts thought the man from Essex didn’t look great at the 150lbs limit.
Despite this, Benn has insisted it was a comfortable weight cut, and that 147lbs is still doable.
A Las Vegas fight against WBC welterweight world champion Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20ko’s) has been heavily rumoured.
Dates in August and September have both been circulating.
It is likely that the attraction will land on a Ring Magazine event live on Netflix.
Ryan Garcia took to X earlier this week to state:
“I want to fight to fight so bad I feel even more now that I have a belt. THE CHAMP wants to fight. SOMEONE RUN THE SCRAP”.
Conor Benn responded with a simple quote tweet: “You talk too much. Sign”.
Any fight including Benn or Garcia brings intrigue, so if you put the two together, you have a pure mega fight.
It is likely Garcia will open as the bookies favourite.
But two unpredictable hard hitters, much stranger things have happened.
