Conor Benn targets trilogy with Chris Eubank Jr at super-middleweight, just days after controversially leaving promoter Eddie Hearn
Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) sent shockwaves through the boxing world last Friday.
The Brit controversially left career long promoter Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing to join rivals Dana White and Zuffa Boxing.
Boxing fans are rarely speechless, but this news was undoubtedly in no boxing fans thoughts prior to the announcement.
This is because of how close both Hearn and Benn were.
Since Conor Benn turned professional in 2016, the pair have been on a unique journey together, fighting court cases and legal battles after Benn’s two failed drugs tests in 2022, to headlining and selling out the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium twice in 2025.
In the Eubank Jr rematch last November, Conor Benn delivered a coming of age performance to defeat his arch rival via a landslide unanimous decision, putting Eubank Jr on the canvas twice in the final round.
The turn of events in recent days has completely changed the sport, with Hearn and Matchroom visibly distraught about what has played out.
Benn’s goals remain the same, the man from Essex still has his sights set on a return to 147lbs to win a world title.
Speaking to Sky Sports Boxing, Benn stated: “Obviously I watched the fight with Barrios, I’m the No 1 contender mandatory for the belt,”.
Ryan Garcia defeated Mario Barrios on Saturday night to become WBC Welterweight Champion.
“I can’t say I was impressed. He did what he needed to do with a guy who’s just coming off two draws, one dimensional, slow. [Barrios] wasn’t really in the fight. I was impressed with Garcia’s engine though, I was impressed with the fact he’s managed to pull himself together and win a world title.”
Benn also declared his desire to face arch rival Eubank Jr for a third time.
Benn stated: “Thinking about it, I would fight him at 168lbs. I would. Not for anything else but to beat him so convincingly again. Because I’m just a better boxer. I have better ring IQ, I’m just faster, more agile. I just punch harder. I have better endurance. Every sector I’m better than him”.
