Conor Benn ‘in talks’ to challenge for world honours in next fight

Promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed that talks are underway for Conor Benn to challenge for a welterweight world title in his next fight.

Conor Benn has made no bones about his goal to fight for world honours upon his next outing and it seems as though the 29-year-old may have gotten his wish.

‘The Destroyer’ ended 2025 on top of the world as he defeated his arch-rival Chris Eubank Jr by unanimous decision at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in a grudge match that had the British public captivated.

Having followed in his father’s footsteps by competing in a fierce feud with the Eubank family, Benn now seeks a more traditional goal by attempting to get his hands on a world title.

He returns back to 147lbs for the first time in over three years as he is set to challenge for welterweight honours, but he is not immediately targeting the belt that many predicted him to pursue.

After his victory up at middleweight against Eubank Jr, the WBC made him the mandatory challenger for their welterweight title, with the idea for Benn to face the winner of Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia, who are set to meet in the squared circle on February 21.

Benn’s dream has always been to emulate his father’s achievements and win the prestigious green and gold WBC belt.

However, in a turn of events, Benn’s promoter and chairman of Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn. has stated that he is in talks with representatives of WBA world champion, Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero.

Speaking to iFL TV, Hearn admitted that he favours the opportunity to face Romero and tee up a unification showdown.

“Conor’s got a tough decision because obviously Ryan Garcia is fighting Barrios on Feb 21st”.

“He wants to fight the winner”.

“For Conor, the Ryan Garcia fight is bigger than the Romero fight, but the Romero fight in the U.K. for the world championship is also a very big fight”.

“If you go out and beat Rolly Romero, you then have a unification fight with Ryan Garcia for more money”.

“Conor’s in a golden position, but you’ve got to get it right. We’ll be presenting our ideas to Conor Benn next week”.

“Me personally, I like the Romero fight, and I think it does great business in London”.

It is unclear whether it will be the WBC or the WBA next for Conor Benn, but it is looking very likely that Essex-born operator will fight for a world title next.
