The 29-year-old has found himself without a promoter.
In February, Conor Benn left the Matchroom stable to sign a $15 million, one-fight deal with Zuffa Boxing.
He went on to defeat Regis Prograis this weekend in his sole appearance under the Zuffa banner.
With attention now turning to what could come next for the Briton, Matchroom CEO Frank Smith has voiced his concerns.
Speaking to Boxing News, Smith said: “You’re not going to have your best performance every night.
“I don’t think that was the best Conor Benn. Regis Prograis did well.
“Regis is a good fighter, I think he was the hardest opponent Conor’s ever had in terms of boxing ability.
“It’s not a good time to be a free agent after a performance like that.”
While Benn’s decision to accept a one-fight deal with Zuffa came with a significant payday, his long-term promotional future now remains uncertain.
When asked whether he would consider bringing Benn back to Matchroom, Smith made his stance clear.
He continued: “I mean, I’ve always said it will be transactional for any business we do.
“You can never say you’d never work with someone again because boxing is a crazy sport, and it has happened millions of times.”
Benn confirmed that his deal with Zuffa was indeed for a single fight, which means he is now a free agent.
As things stand, he remains in limbo when it comes to promotional ties.
Although there is a chance that Zuffa may re-sign Benn for another fight deal, or even a possibility that he teams up with Matchroom again.
