Claressa Shields to face unified champion in next fight

Shields to fight for unified middleweight championship.

Claressa Shields is regarded as one of bes fighters in women’s boxing. Indeed, the self-proclaimed “GWOAT” would tell you so herself. In fact, she’d probably tell you that she’s the best to ever do it.

Certainly, Shields’s confidence and outspoken nature has attracted a number of both fans and critics. But whatever you happen to think of her, she is undoubtedly one of the biggest ambassadors of the female side of pugilism.

A five-weight world champion who has been undisputed in three of those weights, Shields has barely faced adversity in any of her fights. In 2022, she also headlined the first all-female boxing card in the United Kingdom when she defeated Savannah Marshall.

Amongst her achievements, she has held a total of 18 world titles from super-welterweight to the women’s heavyweight division, and she will now be going back down to middleweight to take on the division’s unified champion.

Shields (18-0, 3 KOs) will be facing off against Kaye Scott (5-1-1, 0 KOs), the WBC and WBA 160-pound titleholder.

The 42-year-old Scott hails from Australia, and she took part in the first female boxing bout in her state of New South Wales when she engaged in an exhibition in 2009.

Scott won her titles in her very last fight, defeating Olivia Curry in a rematch. Both of Scott’s fights with Curry took place in Michigan, Shields’s home state.

Shields will face Scott on the 15th of August at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
