Chris Eubank Jr to return to super-middleweight

Chris Eubank Jr will be moving up to 168lbs after a heavy defeat and sub par performance against arch rival Conor Benn last time out

Chris Eubank Jr (35-4, 25ko’s) is set to move up to super-middleweight for the first time since 2019.

Eubank Jr lost the rematch of his bitter family feud with Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) in November, with the man from Brighton looking a shell of his former self in the rematch at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In a rivalry that captured the imagination of the British public all over again, Eubank Jr was put on the canvas twice in the 12th round of the rematch.

In his post fight interview, Eubank admitted that he “had to go through hell and back” to get in the ring that night, and many ex fighters have called for Eubank to retire in order to protect his long-term health.

Eubank Jr, who previously challenged for world title honours at 168lbs, moved down to 160lbs in 2019.

After brutal weight cuts for both Conor Benn fights and even missing weight in the first fight, it is finally time for Eubank Jr to return to 168lbs, a move that his legendary father has been calling for.

With undisputed suer-middleweight champion Terence Crawford retiring in late 2025, the landscape of the division is wide open, and Eubank Jr’s commercial draw could land him a shot at a world title.

WBC President Mauricio Sulamain has shared his thoughts on Eubank Jr’s move in weight to Sky Sports Boxing.

Sulamain stated: “Absolutely. Chris Eubank a tremendous fighter. I believe he sacrificed too much with the weight and he’s a natural fighter for that division. Great potential. Super fighter,”.

“He’s a world-class fighter without a doubt.”

“We’re going to address the situation in the following weeks to see what is coming up for Mbilli and the division. Of course, Canelo, [Jaime] Munguia, Lester Martinez, Luka Plantic. There are so many fighters who can make great fights for the champion, Mbilli”.
