Chris Eubank Jr shares apology to British Boxing Board for libellous comments

The 37-year-old has made his response public.

Chris Eubank Jr has apologised to the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) following a series of libellous comments made last year.

The comments came during a heated press conference ahead of his second clash with Conor Benn.

Eubank Jr launched a furious attack on Eddie Hearn and BBBofC general secretary Robert Smith, branding them “scumbags”.

Frank Warren previously pursued legal action against Eubank Jr over similar comments made at a separate press conference in 2024.

That dispute was later settled amicably outside court.

The BBBofC has now followed suit after Eubank Jr accused Smith of being “in the back pockets of Matchroom and Eddie Hearn”.

“Just another scumbag in this treacherous and underhanded industry we find ourselves in,” Eubank Jr said.

He also questioned how the Board spends money raised through fines, including the £100,000 he was ordered to pay for slapping Benn with an egg.

Smith later told talkSPORT that he was taking legal advice on the matter.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that the dispute had been settled.

Eubank Jr has since shared his statement on social media in which he apologised for his comments.

What did Chris Eubank Jr write?

His apology reads:

”In a press conference held on 17 September 2025 to publicise the forthcoming fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn, I made statements about Mr Smith and the British Boxing Board of Control Limited (the “Board”), including that Mr Smith is in the back pockets of Matchroom and Eddie Hearn, had as a consequence tried to ruin my preparation for the fight with Mr Benn on 29 April 2025, and that Mr Smith and the Board have used fines imposed on me to line their own pockets.

“I accept that these statements are untrue and without any foundation.

“I accept that neither Mr Smith nor the Board are corrupt and I retract my statements in full.

“I have agreed a settlement of these matters on confidential terms.

“The parties now consider the matter resolved. I apologise for the harm caused to both Mr Smith and the Board.”

The BBBofC confirmed in a follow-up statement that a confidential settlement had been reached, adding that no further comment would be made.
