Chris Eubank Jr is in negotiations for his first fight after a comprehensive defeat to Conor Benn, with a former world title challenger confirmed
After suffering a crushing defeat to arch rival Conor Benn (24-1, 14ko’s) last time out, many wondered if that was the end of the road for Chris Eubank Jr (35-4, 25ko’s).
Categorically, the answer is no, and team Eubank Jr have made it explicitly clear about their plans for the 36 year old.
It was evident how difficult the 160lbs middleweight limit was becoming for the man from Brighton.
Promoter Ben Shalom of BOXXER has revealed that Eubank Jr will move to 168lbs.
As Eubank Jr enters this next chapter of his career, it is no secret that his commercial draw is at the highest its ever been.
Two sold out Tottenham Hotspur Stadiums in 2025 and a Ring Magazine Fight of the Year has catapulted Eubank Jr to becoming a global star.
Undoubtedly, the fight team Eubank Jr desire is Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39ko’s).
The Mexican has been and still is one of the faces of modern boxing, and any Canelo fight brings in major commercial interest.
Both fighters are believed to have options with Turki Al-Sheikh and SELA for their next fights, and with both coming off defeats, this could make sense.
However, a former opponent of Canelo’s is reportedly in talks to fight Chris Eubank Jr.
Chris Mannix has reported that Edgar Berlanga (23-2, 18ko’s) is in talks with Chris Eubank Jr for a fight.
The Puerto Rican super middleweight was brutally knocked out by British hopeful Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18ko’s) last time out in New York.
Mannix has reported some stumbling blocks during negotiations between the two parties.
Reportedly, ‘next generation’ wants to fight at a catchweight of 164lbs, with Berlanga hoping to fight at his traditional championship weight of 168lbs.
Whether this weight discrepancy can be resolved is yet to be seen, but it is no doubt that Eubank Jr’s and Berlanga’s fan friendly styles will make excellent viewing.
