Charlie Edwards to officially fight in final eliminator in next MFPro event

Charlie Edwards to fight in IBF final eliminator.

Former WBC flyweight world champion Charlie Edwards (21-2 (1), 7 KOs) will feature as the main attraction on the next MFPro card, it has been officially revealed.

Edwards won the WBC belt in 2018 in what was his second title shot, having lost to IBF champion John Riel Casimero in 2016.

Edwards would successfully defend his title against Angel Moreno before losing it to Julio Cesar Martinez, a third-round knockout defeat that was overturned to a no-contest due to Edwards being hit while he was down.

Edwards put together five wins after that fight, including a European bantamweight title victory over Thomas Essomba.

Last year, Edwards faced Liverpool’s hard-punching British and Commonwealth bantamweight champion Andrew Cain, a fight that drew heavy criticism because of Edwards’s extremely negative performance.

Edwards would lose on the cards, but returned almost six months later to beat Salvador Juárez and win the WBC international super-flyweight title.

Edwards will now get a big opportunity on MFPro’s next card, as he is set to star in a final eliminator the IBF super-flyweight world title (currently held by Willibaldo Garcia Perez).

Edwards’s opponent will be Sikho Nqothole (21-3, 13 KOs), a South African foe ranked #5 by the IBF.

Other action on the card includes a WBA continental super-welterweight title fight between Dan Toward (8-1, 6 KOs) and Jak Corrie (9-0, 6 KOs), an English super-middleweight title fight between James Osborne (13-1, 3 KOs) and Ollie Cooper (12-0, 2 KOs), and a featherweight showdown between Tom Welland (10-1, 5 KOs) and Jack Dillingham (7-0-1, 2 KOs).

The card will be taking place on the 29th of May at the historic York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, England.
