Chantelle Cameron to officially fight Mikaela Mayer

Cameron to fight Mayer in unified title fight.

It has been officially announced that Chantelle Cameron (22-1, 8 KOs) will be defending her WBO super-welterweight title against WBC and WBA champion Mikaela Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs).

The fight will act as the main event to a Most Valuable Promotions card, pitting former undisputed super-lightweight champion Cameron against former unified super-featherweight and WBO welterweight champion Mayer.

Cameron most likely possesses the best win of any women’s boxer in the world, being the only person to inflict a loss on the great Katie Taylor. The two did rematch, with Cameron ultimately coming short in a very close affair.

However, Cameron’s victory in their first encounter will always remain, such is the quality of the triumph. Given that, Cameron can only build on her legacy with a win in this fight.

The same, of course, is true for Mayer, who will be hoping to win back the WBO title that she gave up in January.

Mayer herself has tussled with the likes of Alycia Baumgardner and secured a rematch victory over Sandy Ryan last year. Last time out, she defeated Mary Spencer to become unified champion.

On the undercard, WBC and WBO lightweight champion Caroline Dubois (13-0-1, 5 KOs) will be facing off against Amelia Moore (4-0, 1 KOs) in the Briton’s first fight since unifying against Terri Harper two months ago.

As a whole, the card will be showcasing a great array of talent that perfectly epitomises MVP’s idea for the women’s side of the sport.

The show will be taking place on the 29th of August at the bp pulse LIVE Arena in Birmingham, England.
