Caroline Dubois makes shock statements in recent interview.
Knowledgeable boxing fans will be able to provide a shortlist of siblings who both became world boxing champions. This includes Leon and Michael Spinks, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, Rafael and Juan Manuel Márquez, and Jermell and Jermall Charlo.
Amongst these specific few, there have only been three brother-sister world champions in all of boxing. The first is Lucas Matthysse and his sister Edith Soledad. The second is the still-reigning Sebastian and Gabriela Fundora.
The third is Daniel ‘Dynamite’ Dubois and ‘Sweet’ Caroline Dubois.
Daniel has been both the WBA (Regular) and IBF heavyweight champion, but now holds neither of those titles due to two separate encounters with the same man: Oleksandr Usyk.
Nonetheless, Daniel is set for a cracker of a fight this May, as he will be taking on Fabio Wardley, the WBO heavyweight champion.
Caroline, meanwhile, is the WBC lightweight world champion and is viewed as one of the best women’s boxers in the world, with some even favouring her to beat Alycia Baumgardner.
She will be taking on Terri Harper this April in a defence of her own title and a challenge for Harper’s WBO title.
However, despite the two siblings both reaching championship glory in their areas of the sport, they actually have somewhat of a strained relationship.
Now in an interview with Naji Chill of “Cigar Talk”, Caroline has spoken on her relationship with her brother and made some surprising comments on Dave Dubois, the father of her and Daniel.
“It’s interestin’, because he’s [Dave Dubois] someone who–I guess a lot of people see him with Daniel, and they see the relationship they have that appears to be quite close, and it seems quite…you know…protective or whatever”, said Caroline.
“But with me, I just–you have to realise that bein’ around this person is not a good thing. It’s a negative, you know? Sometimes, you’re around people, and it’s like bein’ around poison…and I know it sounds quite harsh that I’m describin’ my own father [like that], and it’s sad that I have to do this, describe him as a poison. But unfortunately, that’s the situation”, she stated.
