Champion to defend against rescheduled foe.
Last time Carlos Adames was in the ring, his fight with Hamzah Sheeraz was controversially ruled a draw. This was the second defence of Adames’s WBC middleweight title, which he was awarded due to holding interim status after Jermall Charlo was stripped in 2024.
Adames hasn’t fought since then, but this isn’t for a lack of trying. He was scheduled to make his next title defence against Austin Williams on the undercard of Shakur Stevenson vs. Teofimo Lopez in January. This, however, was pulled from the card after Adames was hospitalised with dehydration while trying to make weight.
Williams remained on the card and scored a decision over late-notice replacement Wendy Toussaint, but ultimately missed out on his title opportunity.
Both Adames and Williams share a common opponent in the previously mentioned Hamzah Sheeraz. However, while Adames contentiously drew with Sheeraz, Williams was stopped in 11 rounds by the unbeaten Briton.
Williams has gone 4-0 in the time since and managed to fight his way back to title contention.
The man known as “Ammo” is ranked #5 by the IBF and #3 by the WBC, and it is now being reported that a deal has been reached for Williams to get his second shot at fighting for Adames’s world title.
Adames (24-1-1, 18 KOs) and Williams (20-1, 13 KOs) are set to do battle on the 21st of March in Orlando, Florida, United States, as being reported by The Ring.
