Canelo is set to return to the ring this September as the Mexican looks to reclaim his super middleweight crown.
Canelo Alvarez is set to fight for a world title in his upcoming fight.
The Mexican superstar lost his undisputed super middleweight crown to Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford last Spetember, in a bout that was watched by over 41 million people live on Netflix.
A unanimous decision in Crawford’s favour handed Canelo just his third defeat in a career that consists of 68 fights to this day.
The 35 year old has won world titles across four weight divisions, fighting the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Gennady Golovkin, and Dmitry Bivol along the way.
As he enters the final chapter of his career, the man from Guadalajara has plans to reclaim his 168lbs supremacy.
Crawford retired from the sport shortly after his career defining victory against the Mexican, with the four belts subsequently fragmenting and becoming vacant.
World Boxing News has reported Canelo Alvarez will challenge Christian Mbilli for the WBC super middleweight title on September 12.
Mbilli was the WBC interim super middleweight champion and had previously been ordered to fight for the vacant belt against Hamzah Sheeraz, however with the fight not materialising, Mbilli is set to land a shot at one of the faces of modern boxing.
Mbilli was elevated to full champion a number of weeks ago, and seems to not be interested in easy touches.
The bout is rumoured to be taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Frenchmen has a come forward style and a high knockout ratio, a style that an ageing Canelo may face problems with.
Canelo’s failed to stop an opponent in his last 7 outings, and questions are being raised as to if the former champion still has another world title run in his locker, after a career that has spanned over 20 years.
