Canelo Álvarez reveals details of his next fight.
Canelo Álvarez lost to Terence Crawford when he last appeared in the ring. And while there is no shame in losing to such an operator, it led many to ask questions about Canelo and how much he really had left.
On the night, he lost his undisputed super-middleweight championship and was defeated for the first time in the 168-pound division.
It was only the third official defeat of a 68-fight career, but it came after a few years of fans speculating that Canelo had lost a step and seemed to have diminished since his second career defeat to Dmitry Bivol.
That loss occurred on the 13th of September, 2025, and Canelo has now stated that his next fight will be 364 days later on the 12th of September this year.
He also said that it will take place in Saudi Arabia and that he wants it to be against a champion.
Because of Crawford’s retirement in December, the undisputed crown he took from Canelo shattered into pieces and went in four separate directions.
The WBA title went to Armando Resendiz, the WBC title went to Christian Mbilli, the IBF title was recently won by Osleys Iglesias, and the WBO title will be contested in May between Hamzah Sheeraz and Alem Begic.
Canelo has been linked to a fight with Mbilli, but an all-Mexican fight with Resendiz or Jaime Munguía (who Resendiz is scheduled to defend against) would make sense close to Mexican Independence Day.
A bout against Iglesias would be fun purely to see an established great against who many consider a potential great, while a clash with Sheeraz (who is heavily favoured to beat Begic) would be logical due to Sheeraz’s status as a Riyadh Season ambassador, and Sheeraz’s size and length would make it fascinating.
Whoever it is, when Canelo Álvarez fights, the boxing world pays attention, and this September will be no different.
