Canelo Alvarez is seemingly gearing up for another crack at 168lbs world title honours, and a British star has called his name out.
Despite having no belts now, Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39ko’s) still has the super-middleweights calling his name.
It was defeat last time out for the Mexican star against Terence Crawford (42-0, 31ko’s) for the undisputed super-middleweight world titles.
The man from Omaha retired, vacating the belts.
But the 68 fight veteran Canelo is set to carry on, and a return date of September is the aim.
Turki Al-Sheikh took to X last week to confirm that a return for Alvarez as a part of Riyadh Season is in the works.
An opponent has not been confirmed, but it is rumoured a fight for the WBC super-middleweight world title against Christian Mbilli (29-0-1, 24ko’s).
Another man that has a super-middleweight world title shot next is Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18ko’s).
The British 168lbs hopeful has oozed world class in his endeavors at 168lbs thus far.
A knockout victory over Edgar Berlanga (23-2, 18ko’s) in New York has placed Sheeraz in a wonderful position.
Sheeraz will face Alem Begic (29-0-1, 23ko’s) on the Usyk-Verhoeven undercard in Egypt this May for the vacant WBO super-middleweight world title.
Speaking to Inside The Ring, Sheeraz was quizzed on a potential clash with Canelo.
Sheeraz stated: “It’s an interesting one”.
“You’ve got these young guns coming through, like myself”.
“I think it’s time for him to give us the opportunity to prove ourselves and take over that number-one spot.”
Hamzah Sheeraz has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of Turki Al-Sheikh and SELA’s introduction to the sport.
The Riyadh Season ambassador has captained 5v5 teams, as well as headlining a Ring Magazine event in New York.
It’s been a fight mentioned for a couple of years now, and undoubtedly Turki Al-Sheikh has the ability to make it happen, whether it’s in the UK, North America or Saudi Arabia.
