British heavyweight reveals thoughts on Tyson Fury’s next fight

British heavyweight states his opinion on Fury vs. Wach.

Tyson Fury’s next opponent has been mey with mixed reception. Following his return back to defeat Arslanbek Makhmudov this April, it was thought that things would be heading straight to the titanic all-British clash with Anthony Joshua.

However, after it was announced that Joshua would be taking on Kristian Prenga in a warm-up bout this July, it was decided that Fury would also be needing a fight in the interim.

This was down to the fact that if he had waited until November (the month the Joshua fight is stencilled in for), he’d have been out of the ring for 7 months.

So, for a while, rumours surrounding who Fury would be fighting and where it would be were passed around the boxing fraternity, with an official announcement not coming until yesterday.

Until then, the most prevalent theory was that it would be staged in Dublin on the 1st of August, likely on the undercard of Pierce O’Leary vs. Mark Chamberlain.

As for the opponent, it was thought that it would likely be unbeaten Albanian puncher Nelson Hysa. However, neither of those things turned out to be true.

Fury will instead be facing Mariusz Wach in Thailand on the 24th of July. A day after it was announced, fan-favourite heavyweight Dave Allen weighed in on the contest.

“If the Joshua fight is to happen, I get that there should be no risk,” Allen told Pro Boxing Fans, “but people won’t like him fighting Wach. But if he goes on to fight Joshua and beats him, no-one will care about this. So, I don’t think it’s a great PR move for here and now, but if he feels like he’s gonna do some good leadin’ into a big fight with Joshua or whoever else, then that’s up to him.”
