British heavyweight open to fighting Benavidez.
For some, David Benavidez was already one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world prior to his win on Saturday over Gilberto Ramírez.
After the win, there were a few who went as far as to say that Benavidez might be the best fighter in the world.
This was due to the fact that his victory to obtain the unified cruiserweight titles was so exceptionally and magnificently dominant that many saw every man falling before him in the very same way.
Ramírez was a two-weight world champion with a single loss in 49 fights, that single loss being a decision to Dmitry Bivol. He was also thought to have a rock-solid chin, being dropped only once back in 2011.
Benavidez landed more punches on Ramírez in five rounds than Bivol did over the full distance, and he would stop him in six after dropping him twice.
Benavidez is huge for a former super-middleweight, and his performance at cruiserweight has led many to believe that he would also have success at heavyweight.
In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, ahead of his cataclysmic clash with Fabio Wardley on Saturday for the WBO world championship, Daniel Dubois was asked whether he could see himself crossing paths with Benavidez at heavyweight.
The former IBF titleholder stated, “That’s a fight, and you never know. You never know. I mean, he’s done his thing so far, but yeah. … Definitely. Definitely. Let’s get it. Let’s get goin’.”
Dubois is one of the most explosive punchers on the heavyweight scene, and should Benavidez wish to fully taste the type of power that exists in the land of the giants in his first foray in the weight class, a fight with Dubois would represent such an opportunity.
