Popular star called out by former undisputed title challenger.
Conor Benn remains one of the biggest draws in British boxing. Despite never fighting at world level, the man known as “The Destroyer” is one of his country’s most popular stars.
This is likely down to Benn’s mix of controversy and excitement. Controversy for his actions outside of the ring, and excitement for his action inside of it.
Because despite Benn’s failed tests prior to the original date of his fight with Chris Eubank Jr. in 2022, he managed to win over the public due to his performance in their rescheduled 2025 clash, as evidenced by the crowd breaking out in majority cheers upon seeing his entry into the stadium on a monitor before the Eubank Jr. rematch.
It definitely helped that Benn won that rematch, and in incredibly dominant fashion. Now he has become the subject of call-outs from the likes of Shakur Stevenson, who represents the sport at its highest level.
Because of this, many were left disappointed when it was announced that Benn’s next opponent would be Regis Prograis, a 37-year-old former super-lightweight champion who will be fighting Benn at a 150-pound catchweight.
In his prime, Prograis was a force to be reckoned with, but has looked past his best for a while now. And in case Prograis pulls out, Conor Benn can rest assured that he will still have an opponent to fight on the same date.
This is because former undisputed super-lightweight title challenger Jack Catterall has stated that he would be ready to step in for Prograis on a week’s notice, opening the door for what many fans would consider a far more compelling matchup.
Catterall currently competes at welterweight, where he has picked up wins over Harlem Eubank and Ekow Essuman. The Chorley southpaw would represent a difficult opponent for Benn, who would have to adjust to training for a radically different style to the one his currently scheduled opponent possesses.
However, it would provide fans with a fascinating all-British encounter that would almost certainly not fail to entertain.
If Regis pulls out I’m ready on a weeks notice @Turki_alalshikh https://t.co/9k9uNVCeoB
