The WBO have terminated today’s planned purse bid for their vacant super middlewieght title between Hamzah Sheeraz and Diego Pacheco
The World Boxing Organisation (WBO) have officially cancelled their scheduled purse bids for Hamzah Sheeraz vs Diego Pacheco for their vacant world super middleweight championship.
When Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford announced his retirement from the sport shortly after capturing the undisputed super middleweight titles, the belts fragmented and are now vacant.
The WBO swiftly ordered Hamzah Sheeraz vs Diego Pacheco for the vacant title.
This gave the fighters respective promotions and management teams the opportunity to successfully complete a deal for the fight before purse bids.
Hamzah Sheeraz, an ambassador of Riyadh Season is under the watchful eye of Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions.
Whereas, the man from California, Diego Pacheco is a Matchroom Boxing fighter.
Just a few years ago, the idea of Queensberry and Matchroom negotiating a deal for a fight seemed a distant dream, however in recent years Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn have patched up their differences and have made a plethora of top fights between their stables with Riyadh Season.
Hamzah Sheeraz knows what it is like to gain bragging rights for Queensberry, defeating Matchroom’s Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams in the 5v5, whilst also brutally knocking out former Matchroom super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga in New York.
With the two promotions having a successful business relationship, fans were hopeful that the two could reach an agreement for this WBO super middleweight world title fight, and it seems that things are moving behind the scenes.
Representative of the WBO Gustavo Olivieri has officially announced: “The scheduled purse bid for today regarding the Vacant WBO Super Middleweight Championship bout Sheeraz vs Pacheco has been terminated, effective immediately. Further official communication will be issued in due course”.
It is yet to be seen whether this categorically means that the fight has been agreed, or if Sheeraz has other plans, the man from East London was also ordered to fight for the vacant WBC super middleweight championship.
