Boxing Hall-of-Famer shares surprising take on Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua

Hall-of-Famer offers surprising take on the British stars.

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are not just two of the biggest names in the heavyweight division, but they’re also the two biggest names in British boxing today.

Pure crossover stars whose names are familiar to people who aren’t fans of the sport, they have long been linked to a huge fight with each other, one that hasn’t yet managed to materialise.

Now, however, their showdown appears to be closer than ever. With Fury having beaten Mariusz Wach earlier today, it’s up to Joshua to beat Kristian Prenga tomorrow night.

Should that happen, it is thought that the two will be ready to collide this November. And ahead of Joshua’s bout tomorrow, former multi-time super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has given a surprising take on both him and Fury.

“At the time [of being champion], ‘AJ’ fought most of the people who were mandatory for his belts”, the International Boxing Hall-of-Famer told Betpack.

“He beat Wladimir Klitschko and fought the likes of Alexander Povetkin, so he has got names on his record. But he never fought Deontay Wilder, and he never fought Luis Ortiz when Ortiz was a dangerous name.

“Then you look at the way he lost [twice] to [Oleksandr] Usyk, the way he got badly knocked out by Daniel Dubois, and the defeat to Andy Ruiz, who hasn’t got many other significant wins on his record. Unfortunately, Joshua’s record eliminates him from being in the Hall of Fame.”

As for the man from Manchester, Froch stated, “Fury hasn’t got enough names on his record, either. His biggest wins are Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder, and he has now lost twice to Usyk.”

In conclusion, Froch said, “So, unfortunately, they won’t be joining ‘The Cobra’ [Froch’s ring nickname] anytime soon, or Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jr., Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, and the other names in the upper echelons of boxing.”
