Whittaker to potentially fight in final eliminator.
Ben Whittaker is just one of those fighters who naturally attracts both kinds of attention, good and bad. You may love him, you may hate him, but he’s on your mind, and that’s what matters.
That’s ultimately what he strives on. A dancing, jiving joker of a boxer, he’s the type to laugh while he punches you, all because he’s enjoying himself so much.
And for those who are along for the ride, it’s terribly entertaining to see: a boxer who has just as much fun in the ring as his fanbase does by watching him.
His antics have, of course, earned him plenty of critics, people who laughed and jeered when he looked very beatable in his first fight against Liam Cameron.
However, from the Cameron rematch and beyond, Whittaker has appeared like something demonic, nasty, seemingly completely emboldened under Andy Lee.
When last he fought, he appeared in America for the first time against Richard Rivera, a fighter known as “Popeye the Sailor Man” who had lost a controversial decision to three-weight champion Badou Jack a few years prior.
However, all the cans of spinach in the world could not save “Popeye” from being chopped down in two frames.
So, who does Whittaker fight next? Where exactly can he go from here?
Only up, of course.
The IBF has now requested availability for Whittaker and Conor Wallace, the latter being only a space apart from the former in the world rankings.
If both men are available, they will be ordered to fight in a final eliminator for Dmitry Bivol’s IBF light-heavyweight championship.
