Ben Whittaker in advanced negotiations to fight in world title eliminator

Whittaker in discussions to fight in IBF final eliminator.

When it comes to British boxing hopefuls, Ben Whittaker is amongst the most popular in the sport today. As a showboating, colourful, confident character, he is both loved and loathed by fans.

That is his brand when it comes down to it, with the undefeated Englishman thriving on attention no matter what form it takes. Such fighters have always divided opinion throughout the years.

So, of course, as he continues to go forward in his career, people in both camps will be paying close attention to what he does. That is everything a fighter such as him could ask for.

Following a very controversial encounter with Liam Cameron in 2024, Whittaker has looked like an entirely different fighter. In fact, he has been no further than the second round.

This started with a much easier time in a rematch with Cameron and led into a brutal dispatch of Benjamin Gavazi. He then demolished Braian Nahuel Suarez as a late-notice headliner in April.

Last month, Whittaker made his debut on American soil and took on Richard ‘Popeye the Sailor Man’ Rivera, an opponent meant to provide him with a step-up and a tough challenge in front of U.S. fans.

Only, that didn’t end up happening. Instead, Whittaker ran straight through Rivera and didn’t leave much evidence at the scene of the crime, dicing him up in only two rounds.

This left plenty of room for another appearance this year, which meant that an even more significant foe was in order. It is believed that that will be Conor Wallace.

Wallace is a world-ranked contender whose place in the IBF is just one digit apart from Whittaker. The two are believed to be in advanced negotiations to collide in an eliminator for Dmitry Bivol’s light-heavyweight world championship.

The contest is expected to go down on the 3rd of October in Birmingham, England.
