Ben Davison questions “if he upset someone” after boxing board snub

Responding to a fan on social media about not being nominated on Instagram, Ben Davison didn’t hold back his thoughts on the snub.

Boxing trainer Ben Davison was notably absent from this year’s British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) Trainer of the Year nominations.

His absence was a surprise to many in the boxing world given his high profile success during the past year.

The official list of nominees for the British Boxing Board Trainer of the Year award were released earlier this week and includes the names of Don Charles, Joe Gallagher, Andy Lee, and Shane McGuigan for 2026, but Davison was nowhere to be seen.

For those unaware, Ben Davison is one of the most respected coaches in British boxing.

He first came to widespread attention for revitalising Tyson Fury’s career, guiding him from being significantly overweight back into elite championship form, a turnaround that gave him global recognition.

While Davison’s role in that story catapulted his reputation, his influence has only grown since.

Most recently, he has worked with Anthony Joshua, helping the former two-time world heavyweight champion sharpen his skills and rebuild his confidence.

Although Joshua and Davison parted ways after the Daniel Dubois loss, many inside the sport still credit Ben Davison with helping restore Joshua’s competitive edge.

One of Davison’s standout hallmarks as a coach is his cerebral approach.

Ben Davison, alongside Lee Wiley, are known for meticulous video breakdowns of opponents by using footage to identify patterns and weaknesses.

This methodical approach has been credited by fighters and insiders alike as a reason why his boxers perform so effectively in the ring.

In 2025 Davison added to his coaching resume with several notable roles, including being part of Devin Haney’s broader coaching team.

He also worked with heavyweight contender Fabio Wardley in his march towards a WBO World title and guided Shabaz Masoud to European Championship success that helped solidify Masoud as one of the UK’s most exciting fighters.

There have been countless Commonwealth and British title level wins from his stable during this period.

Despite Davison’s high profile work across multiple champions, he didn’t make the final cut this year, a development that’s sparked conversation among fans and within the boxing community.

Responding to a fan on social media about not being nominated on Instagram, Ben Davison didn’t hold back his thoughts on the snub.

“We did see it yesterday actually,” Davison responded to a question on his Instagram stories on whether he’d seen the list and that his name wasn’t featured on it.

“A heavyweight world champion, a European champion, 2 commonwealth titles, numerous international titles and not 1 but 2 nominees for boxing of the year!

“And not even a nominee… Most of [sic] upset somebody 🤣🤣”.

While signing off with a tongue in cheek comment, the tone from Davison mixed pride with a playful jab at the omission, keeping fans intrigued by both his humility and achievements.
