Jalolov reporterly added to Wardley-Dubois undercard.
Fabio Wardley vs. Daniel Dubois is easily one of the most anticipated fights on the entire boxing calendar, and for very good reason.
Both Wardley and Dubois possess a 95% knockout ratio, and that means both men punch very hard. Both are also Britons fighting for the WBO heavyweight title in Britain.
Occasions such as this are very rare, and there is no doubt British fans will come out in full force for a fight that has been considered a possible candidate for end-of-the-year honours.
And alongside the terrific main event, there is also some great action on the undercard. Jack Rafferty vs. Ekow Essuman looks to be nothing short of a brutal bloodbath, while Liam Cameron vs. Bradley Rea and Khaleel Majid vs. Gavin Gwynne are also very intriguing additions.
The main card was also set to feature the return of Jared Anderson in his first fight since signing with Queensberry Promotions, and he was scheduled to face former English champion Solomon Dacres.
However, it was revealed early Sunday morning that Anderson had pulled out with a biceps injury. And though it was rumoured Dacres would be fighting Tony Yoka instead, neither Dacres nor Yoka will be featuring on the show.
Instead, reports came out that David Morrell had signed a deal to face Zak Chelli on the card in a surprising late addition.
And keeping up the tradition of surprising late additions, a new heavyweight fight has been added to the bill, according to reports from select sources.
This fight is set to be between Bakhodir Jalolov (16-0, 14 KOs) and Agron Smakici (21-3, 19 KOs).
Jalolov is a 6’7″ Uzbekistani who won a gold medal at both the 2020 and 2024 Olympics. Though his professional career hasn’t yet delivered in the same way, he did win his first 14 fights by knockout. And if one thing is clear, it’s that he punches very hard.
Ranked #8 with the WBO, #7 with the IBF, and #10 with the WBC, Jalolov is generally considered a talent who hasn’t fully proven just what he can do. If his amateur knockout over Richard Torrez Jr. is any indication, he possesses real ability indeed.
Smakici, meanwhile, is likely Jalolov’s best opponent to date. While the Croatian’s best win is most likely over Lenroy Thomas, he has faced Agit Kabayel, Zhan Kossobutskiy, and Artem Suslenkov.
Though Smakici was stopped on all three occasions, the results don’t tell the full story. For instance, in his fight against Kabayel, Smakici had the current top contender in a world of trouble in the second round.
Hurt, rocked, and wobbled, Smakici unloaded on Kabayel until the German fell into the ropes, resulting in a count being issued.
Smakici was stopped a round later, but it remains true that of all those Kabayel has faced in his career, nobody has made him look quite as vulnerable as Smakici did.
Could the 35-year-old Zagreb native possibly bother Jalolov in a similar way?
We await the official announcement from Queensberry.
