Joshua-Prenga show to potentially include championship action.
On the 25th of July, British heavyweight superstar Anthony Joshua will be returning to action when he throws down with once-beaten Albanian puncher Kristian Prenga.
The contest will be Joshua’s first since his incredibly traumatic personal experience in Nigeria, which itself occurred the same month as his odd affair with Jake Paul.
The Prenga fight is being treated as a warm-up before a mega event against Tyson Fury, meaning the Englishman is a massive favourite heading in.
Despite the main event being confirmed for a while now, though, not a single fight on the undercard has been officially announced. Though if recent statements are accurate, we should expect to see more than one championship-level bout.
When speaking to BoxingScene about the supporting cast for Joshua vs. Prenga, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn stated, “I think there could be two world championship fights on the undercard. Hamzah Sheeraz may be one of those, as well. Obviously, we’ll talk to Frank Warren and Spencer Brown [Sheeraz’s promoter and manager at Queensberry Promotions] and everybody, and Josh Kelly could feature on there, as well. That’ll be announced this coming week.”
Josh Kelly is expected to make the first defence of his IBF super-welterweight title against Caoimhin Agyarko, which has been rumoured for the show already.
Hamzah Sheeraz, meanwhile, won his WBO super-middleweight title against Alem Begic just a few weeks ago, and he had such an easy time that a slot on this card is perfectly reasonable.
But when it comes down to it, we will have to see what the official announcement has in store. Only then will we know for sure just who will be featuring alongside Joshua on that Saudi Arabian night.
