Anthony Joshua opens up on lessons from Oleksandr Usyk

The Briton is primed and prepped for his return.

Anthony Joshua began working with Team Oleksandr Usyk back in 2025.

As Joshua gears up for his comeback fight this month against Kristian Prenga, he has been reflecting on his time under Usyk’s guidance thus far.

Despite their contrasting styles, the Watford powerhouse has welcomed the chance to learn from his former two-time rival.

During a video released by DAZN on Friday, Joshua explained to Eddie Hearn and Frank Smith: “We’re different styles.

“When he beat me, I had a breakdown, let’s not call it a breakdown, but I had a moment that was raw.

“One of the things that I noticed I said in there was I’m not a 12-round fighter because I couldn’t believe that this guy had beaten me.

“I was like, how does he pull away? [When he fought] Fury, he pulled away in the last few rounds; [against me, he] pulled away in the last few rounds.

“So, training with him isn’t so much about the styles that I’m trying to now become a southpaw or mimic his style.

“From a spiritual point of view, when I enter the gym, I pray a lot more; he’s very prayerful, and I can pick that from him. I can take that anywhere.

“I can’t take the style anywhere because different coaches will always change the style, but prayer I can take anywhere in the world to any coach.

“Work ethic you can take anywhere, so there are two things which I think really do separate him from [the rest].

“Because he’s in competitive fights, but he does pull away because of these small, little consistent things he does.

“He prays, works hard, and he talks about discipline over motivation.”

What is next for Anthony Joshua?

As Joshua gears up for his comeback, he reflected on his career to date as he made his future aspirations clear.

He continued: “We’ve shut down all the businesses.

“The number one performing business is boxing, and that’s where I want to put all my energy and focus.

“I want to regain the championship and be the world heavyweight champion once again.

“I’m a normal lad giving 100 per cent while I can.

“I’m a fighter through and through, and I believe in myself.”
