Anthony Joshua breaks silence after tragic car crash

Former heavyweight champion speaks out in emotional YouTube video.

It was in December, not long after his triumph over Jake Paul, that Anthony Joshua was in the same car as his friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele when it crashed in Nigeria.

The two weren’t just friends to Joshua. They were years-long companions.

Now the former two-time unified heavyweight champion of the world has opened up for the first time since the tragic episode in a new video posted to his personal YouTube channel.

“We went back home. We went to see our families, and everything just got flipped upside on its head,” Joshua said.

Joshua spoke of the importance the two men represented in his life.

“They’re my brothers. They’re my friends, first and foremost, and then we became business partners. We became hustlers. We became lieutenants. We became generals. We became everything. We became housemates; we were living together.

“One day, my time will come, and I’m not scared, either, at all. It’s actually comforting knowing I’ve got two brothers on the other side.”

Throughout the emotional video, Anthony Joshua is seen to be holding back tears as he speaks.

Joshua reminisces on memories with his friends and what they meant to him. He also goes on to thank everyone for the outpouring of support.

The driver of the vehicle that Joshua and his friends were occupants in was 46-year-old Adeniyi Kayode.

Subsequent to the car, Kayode was found to not have a valid driver’s license in Nigeria and was charged on four counts (these being dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national license) when he appeared at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court early this month.
