Eddie Hearn reveals Anthony Joshua was approached by someone who wanted to sign him.
Anthony Joshua is one of the biggest names in all of boxing today. Since the Watford native won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, he has been in the public eye.
Fans saw him win his first 15 professional bouts inside the distance before he demolished Charles Martin to become the new IBF heavyweight champion.
He would make two defences before he picked up the WBA and IBO titles in a monumental battle with Wladimir Klitschko. A couple of fights later, he acquired the WBO title in his win over Joseph Parker, his first fight to go the distance.
It was a year later that we would watch him shockingly crumble to Andy Ruiz Jr., then regain his titles in their rematch. A defence would follow before his twin defeats to Oleksandr Usyk.
Since then, Joshua has gone 5-1, his last two fights seeing him suffer a devastating loss to Daniel Dubois and triumph over social media personality Jake Paul.
Rumours swirled as to what his next course of action would be, but everything was put on hold when Joshua got into a terrible car crash while visiting Nigeria, an accident that would claim two of his friends’ lives.
While fight news has understandably been put on the backburner since then, we have learned that Joshua was approached by someone that wanted to sign him.
This was revealed by long-time Joshua promoter Eddie Hearn, who said on “The Ariel Helwani Show”, “He won’t mind me saying it, but AJ had an approach around the back a couple of weeks ago. Do you know how quickly he sent me the screenshot? Seconds. [He said], ‘Let me know when you want to reply.’.”
“We are a team”, said Hearn. “Until the wheels come off, we are a team, and I have got your back always.”
This arrives on the back of Matchroom’s Conor Benn signing with Zuffa Boxing, a move nobody saw coming.
