Angelo Leo to defend world title on DAZN card

Featherweight world title fight has date officially announced.

In recent times, DAZN has really staked its claim as the biggest boxing platform in the world.

The streaming app has, of course, been the home of Matchroom Boxing for the last few years, but also houses MFPro and Golden Boy Promotions.

However, when Queensberry Promotions struck a deal with DAZN last year and also became part of the platform, it signified a brighter future for the sport and a step in the right direction.

Finally, the two biggest promoters in Britain (and arguably, the world) operated under the same roof, and that was convenient for everybody.

Things became even better when it was announced earlier this month that Top Rank had also signed to DAZN, which really opened the door for some huge nights in the sport.

Now a Top Rank card on DAZN has had its date officially announced, and it is a featherweight world title fight.

IBF champion Angelo Leo (26-1, 12 KOs) will be defending against well-ranked contender Ra’eese Aleem (23-1, 12 KOs) on the 9th of May.

Former WBO super-bantamweight champion Leo will be making the second defence of the title he won in his 2024 “Knockout of the Year” contender over then-titleholder Luis Alberto Lopez.

Aleem, also a former super-bantamweight, will be making his fourth straight appearance at 126 pounds since a split-decision defeat to Sam Goodman.

Both Leo and Aleem made their last ring appearances in Japan with wins over Tomoki Kameda and Mikito Nakano, respectively. Both are also undefeated at the weight following their only career losses at 122 pounds.

The action is set to get underway at the Gateway Centre Arena in College Park, Georgia, United States. The rest of the card is yet to be announced.
