The 46-year-old is open to reversing his retirement.
Alistair Overeem has not fought since suffering a TKO defeat to Alexander Volkov at UFC Vegas 18 in February 2021.
Since then, the former UFC heavyweight title challenger has returned to kickboxing, facing long-time rival Badr Hari in October 2022.
Although Overeem won their trilogy bout by unanimous decision, the result was later overturned to a no contest after he failed a drug test.
But now, after a four-year hiatus, ‘The Demolition Man’ is hoping to lace up the gloves again.
During an appearance on Playbook Boxing, he explained: “I think you could say we are looking to make a comeback into boxing.”
When asked if he would be open to fighting Rico Verhoeven or Francis Ngannou, Overeem responded: “Yes, so Francis we have a loss against Francis.
“So that would definitely be something, and then Rico we were supposed to fight Rico on two occasions.
“There was a lot of media hype, the fight of the Netherlands cause we’re both from there.
“I could see that fight happening.”
Why did Alistair Overeem stop fighting?
The 46-year-old still believes he can compete at the highest levels.
Although a multitude of injuries made his training camps nearly impossible to push through towards the latter times of his career.
Last month, Overeem explained to Bloody Elbow: “An injury took me out of the sport.
“A lower back injury, it was nagging. It came back a couple of times in my career. The last time it didn’t want to go away, and it forced me out of the sport.
“I feel better now than I did five years ago. I feel younger. That being said, the time away did somewhat take me out of shape. I lost some mass.
“So, I’m just training, and I’m enjoying it. This is my bread and butter. It gives me pleasure. I’m just doing what I love.”
