Two fights added to Usyk-Verhoeven card.
Oleksandr Usyk vs. Rico Verhoeven is the most controversial fight on the current boxing schedule. A professionally sanctioned heavyweight title fight between the unified champion and a career kickboxer, the contest has drawn comparisons to other novelty bouts throughout the years.
But despite the nature of the main event, the undercard includes several interesting fights that make for quite a good show overall.
On the card, there is a WBO super-middleweight title fight between Hamzah Sheeraz and Alem Begic, a WBA (Regular) welterweight title fight between Jack Catterall and Shakhram Giyasov, an IBF heavyweight title eliminator between Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez Jr., and a The Ring and WBO female super-flyweight title fight between Mizuki Hiruta and Mai Soliman.
That is all in addition to appearances from several other up-and-coming fighters further down the bill, a portion of the card that has now had two further fights announced for it.
The first of these is Sultan Almohammed (3-0, 2 KOs) vs. Dedy Imprax (2-4, 1 KO).
Almohammed is an 18-year-old based in Saudi Arabia whose three fights have all come on Riyadh Season undercards. Against Imprax, he will be hoping to further his unbeaten record.
The second fight is Daniel Lapin (13-0, 5 KOs) vs. Benjamin Mendes Tani (9-1, 2 KOs), a fight for the WBA Continental, IBF Inter-Continental, and WBO international light-heavyweight titles.
Lapin is a 6’6″ southpaw who has appeared on the undercards of his countryman Usyk before, picking up a contested decision over Lewis Edmondson on the same show as Usyk’s rematch victory over Daniel Dubois.
All in all, it’s a solid load of action to support a fight that hasn’t been received well by everyone. It all goes down at the Pyramids of Giza on the 23rd of May.
