Adam Azim is back and is set to headline on the UK’s biggest television channel this May.
Adam Azim (14-0, 11ko’s) is arguably Boxxer and Ben Shalom’s flagship fighter.
To bring professional boxing to the BBC, fighters like Azim will have the opportunity to fight in front of enormous viewership on terrestrial TV.
The Copper Box Arena in the heart of East London was set to stage Azim’s first fight of 2026 against Gustavo Lemos (30-2, 20ko’s).
The Argentinian has only come up short to the very best, and even one of those decisions was controversial.
Defeats came up against former IBF super-lightweight champion Richardson Hitchins (20-0, 8ko’s), and the hotly tipped Keyshawn Davis (14-0, 10ko’s).
Lemos brought credibility to the table, and would’ve allowed Azim to further climb the IBF rankings at super-lightweight.
Initially, the fight was rescheduled after an injury to the Argentinian.
Furthermore, it was then the man from Slough’s turn to have an injury of his own, and the fight was officially cancelled.
A new fight has now been announced, and the Adam Azim show has been moved from East London to North West London at the Wembley Arena.
Live on BBC One, Adam Azim will make his return against Steve Claggett (40-8-2, 28ko’s).
The Canadian is a former world title challenger.
However, at 36 years old, Claggett had his first fight in close to two years in March.
This is likely to be a last pay day for the Canadian before he enters retirement.
For Azim, this is far from the end goal.
The IBF super-lightweight world title is now vacant.
Azim is currently ranked at 8, a win on May 30th could be a major step closer to challenging for a world title.
Should ‘The Assassin’ become world champion in the near future, a potential unification title fight with Dalton Smith (19-0, 14ko’s) could be a major fixture in the British boxing schedule.
