A bloodied Conor Benn beats Regis Prograis via unanimous decision

The 29-year-old proved too quick for his American foe.

Conor Benn put in a dominant performance tonight during his first outing under the Zuffa Boxing banner.

Benn went head-to-head with former two-time super lightweight champion Regis Prograis over 10 rounds in the co-main event of Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov.

After a haphazard opening round, Benn finally landed a shot that wobbled Prograis as the bell rang to send them back to their corners.

The early rounds were very nip-and-tuck, but Benn began increasing the tempo of his work and showing greater urgency in his attacks in the middle section.

Benn had sustained cuts over both eyes by the sixth round, after a testing and increasingly physical contest.

A sharp right hand landed cleanly and immediately drew the attention of Prograis, briefly shifting the momentum of the exchange.

As the eighth round progressed, both fighters engaged more willingly, trading punches with increasing frequency in the centre of the ring.

Benn, encouraged by his success, loosened up and let his hands go with more confidence.

However, the rhythm was disrupted again by another accidental head clash, which briefly broke up the flow of action.

In the aftermath, Prograis appeared to have taken a thudding shot to the head amid the close-range chaos, adding further drama to an already scrappy and hard-fought exchange.

Heading into the ninth, ‘The Destroyer’ continued to press forward and appeared on course to secure victory.

The 29-year-old may have found it difficult to replicate the dominant style of win he produced against Eubank Jr tonight, but he won convincingly on the judges’ scorecards.

Ultimately, Benn earned a wide points decision win, with all three scorecards reading 98-92, 98-92, 98-92 in his favour.
