54-year-old heavyweight who fought Lennox Lewis in discussions with Tommy Fury.
Tommy Fury (brother of superstar and former two-time heavyweight world champion Tyson) has made his name in a very specific area of boxing.
Unlike brother Tyson and cousin Hughie Fury–who have both fought at the world level of the sport–Tommy has become popular through more unique events.
This started with a fight against YouTuber-turned-boxing-presence Jake Paul, a fight that Tommy was actually expected to lose by many, but would end up winning when the two faced each other in February of 2023.
In October of that same year, Tommy would face KSI, another YouTuber who tried his hand in influencer boxing affairs. Once again, Tommy would claim victory, and his presence in this area of the profession was properly established.
A bout against former UFC title challenger Darren Till in early 2025 would end up not coming to fruition, but Tommy did most recently face former professional strongman Eddie Hall in an exhibition match this June.
So, Tommy Fury’s presence in these more curious events is cemented. Still, the person who has recently claimed to be in talks to face him has come as a surprise.
Former WBO and lineal heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs (who actually trained Jake Paul’s brother Logan for his rematch with KSI) has now stated that he is currently in negotiations to be Tommy Fury’s next opponent.
“I just got off the phone negotiating a fight with Tommy Fury”, stated Briggs. “I’ll go for you first, then your daddy [John Fury], then your brother. Let’s go, champ.
“All I can say is, Tommy, don’t get scared now. Don’t get scared, Tommy.”
Now 54 years old, Briggs still holds the record for the most first-round knockouts (37) of any heavyweight world champion.
